72 Dual tanks valve

Looking for information on factory dual tank setups, mainly the manual vavle that switched between the in-cab tank and the factory auxillary tank.

My 72 K20 GMC has the aux tank but it hasnt been hooked up in years with the valve itself completely bypassed. So the vavle is rusted pretty bad and wont move at all.

Any input on where to go to replace this valve would be very helpful.

In addition, the dash wiring from the switch that operated the two sending units to the fuel gauge has all been removed. Can anyone offer any help with wiring that as well?

thanks folks!

Re: 72 Dual tanks valve

I just sold a`72 truck with the auxilary tank option. The guy said he wasn`t going to use the tank.I had it out because the woodfloor was rotted.I`ll call and ask him if he wants to sell those parts. He may want to keep it all together.

Re: 72 Dual tanks valve

unless you need to go all stock original a way to do it is from a boat supply place because multi tank systems are very common on boats

Re: 72 Dual tanks valve

I had mine out while I was removing rust from the floor on that side. I had it sitting on the floor where I thought it was safe. I dropped a board on it and hit the pot metal handle in the perfect spot - the perfect spot to snap it.

So I went looking for a replacement - either the handle or the whole valve. I ended up in a small town hardware store. One of those places where they have everything. It also happens to have the world's largest Ranger dealer attached to it. The guy finds THE EXACT valve. $18. He said over in the marina they are twice as much because boats use them as cdowns pointed out.

To make a long post short, look at the hardware store that has everything.

Re: 72 Dual tanks valve

If you want to go electric, 85' F@rds used a simple 2 in 1 out valve they run around 25.00 bucks at autozone. Use a double pole double throw switch (6) terminals and run your valve and gauge off one switch.

Re: 72 Dual tanks valve

ALSCHEVY: I dont mean to sound harsh or anything, but you sort of hijacked my thread. I, too, was looking for a replacement manual valve and you ended up requesting one before i had a chance to respond.
Not too big a deal, but its proper board etiquette. I posted some pictures so you can see a factory aux tank setup.

I went with the suggestion about using a F**D elect switch. Have it plumbed, but not wired yet....do that this week.

so more to follow.
