3 speed floor shifter

I know this topic has been discussed, but I haven't found any previous threads with a lot of info on them, especially regarding the 60-66 chevy's.

My 3 on the tree has a lot of problems. I wanted to try to spare the original mechanism from the scrap heap. But I'm tired of banging in and out of gears. Plus, I have to make it easier for my girlfriend to drive. Anyways, what's involved with this column to floor installation? What tools am I going to need, and what kind of general knowledge am I going to need? I feel like I ask a lot of dumb questions, but I'm just unfamiliar working with trannys and tranny linkages.

Also, what's a good shifter to buy? I need somthing somewhat cost effective. I know there is talk about bench seat clearance issues, but I'm not too concerned with that. Because I'm probably going to fabricate some crazy shifter for the rat rod look I'm going for anyways.

Any pictures and words of advice or warning would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter

you may want to take a look at Mr. Gasket part # 7667
they're on ebay for under 30 bucks. very easy install. the hardest part is cutting the hole in the floor. these are made just for trucks with a 18" stick.
