How tall are your rear cups?

I don't want to cut my DIY cup kit from suicide doors until I get a better idea of about how tall the rear cups need to be. Right now I'm getting the fronts powder coated black, so I need to figure out how tall to make the rear cups. It's a 72 GMC that I am putting on a 71 Chevy frame, with Slam specialties RE-7 bags, and a c-notch. Any suggestions?

Re: How tall are your rear cups?

No cup required in the back- just bolt it to the trailing arm and frame. ~1" up front just to locate the bag in the a-arm pocket.

Re: How tall are your rear cups?

Not sure how you were planning on doing the rear suspension design with cups, but it's not a common way to do the rear of a 60-72 truck with trailing arms.

Give us a better idea of what you were thinking so we can possibly help you out.

If you're notching it you can just bolt the bags in place of the springs to give a low ride height. Only reason you'd want rear cups is if you wanted to get closer to stock ride height, or just a little drop.

Re: How tall are your rear cups?

Oh, I posted a pic of a piece of 5" x 18" piece of tubing that suicide doors sent me and said it was DIY cup kit. I talked to them and they said to cut the tubing for my rear cups I thought. Who do I need to talk to at KP Components, Clint? I want it as low as I can go with a bolt in c notch, without cutting the bed up. I have 3" drop spindles on the front.

Re: How tall are your rear cups?

I actually just hung up the phone working with you on the project. It didn't even dawn on me that we have a truck here in the shop that I can take the measurements off that we discussed if you need more help.

The one here will be the next victim of KP Components 1963-1972 6 link kit and a Porterbuilt Dropmember up front. I'm going to be doing a build up of the rear suspenion for everyone on the forum to check out.

Re: How tall are your rear cups?

Kewl. If you can give me the measurements I would appreciate it. I don't have the frame here yet to work on it. Then maybe I can send the DIY cup kit back to suicide doors and get a lowering block kit from you. Thanks again!!
