Post how hot is hot?

ok, i have a 160 degree thermostat in my truck with a 350. just runinng around town and what not i run about 180-190, but when i am on the interstate, it will go all the way up to about 215 if i am not careful of my speed, unfortunately my speedometer is busted, so i dont know how fast is to fast, to the point where it is getting hot, so my question is, how hot should it go? i know the water pump works, the radiator could probalbly be replaced, since it is old and like ony a one core or something like that thanks

sounds like your radiator because your truck should be running cooler on the interstate
I have a 160 stat and I run about 170 on the freeway and about 190 in the city and I'm in texas using a single 16" electric fan no a/c

see how hot it will get at idle if your radiator needs to be reworked you should see high temps at idle and always check out your fan. because that is when It has to work the hardest.

I have a 160 in mine, and in town I MIGHT see 170.
I only have a 2 core rad, and no fan shroud.

While I can't tell you what H is on your guage...(I never trust stock ones) I can tell yopu to look at your oil guage. Ig the motor is about to melt down, the oil will respond first by getting as thin as W.D>40, and show ans a near zero reading on your guage.

I think 220 is as high as you'd want to go before any serious damage occurs, i would change the oil more often if the truck sees regular use, heat breaks down oil so after little time the viscosity is no longer there in turn does not lubricate or cool, yes oil cools the motor as much as the coolant does. i'd replace that radiator with a least a 3 core, as soon as possible.
