Front springs.... pt. 2

Hello again. Should there be any sort of rubber bushing/isolator for the front coil springs? I can't for the life of me remember if there was any when I tore down the front end. The front is out of a '78 if that makes a difference. After payday im going to order 2" drop coils for the front. Thanks Dale.

Hey Rojo -
I JUST tore my front suspension totally apart this last weekend, control arms, X-member - everything!
There were no bushings, etc. between my coils and lower OR upper control arms.
mine is a 64 C10 with drums... I'm also going with 2.5" drop spindles, plus cutting 1 or 1.5 coils

I don't believe there is any rubber bushing or anything in the front coils... I've only seen that on newer vehicles...

Ill try and get some pics of whats been done so far. The rear has a CCP c-notch kit in it that we fully boxed. The trailing arms are fully boxed as well. I took some large diameter tubing and cut holes in the trailing arm mount to run my exhaust through. My friend and I spent a long time designing the custom mounts for the Caddy motor. The Caddy motor mount holes are farther forward on the block than a Chevy so we had to make mounts that took that into account. We also made addapters to use SBC urethane motor mounts. It isnt nessesary to but I cut a large section of firewall out. The driver side bank of cylinders sits farther back on the Caddy and gets pretty close.

Also, for what it is worth. ALL Caddy 472/500's came with TH400's. I wouldnt run a TH350 behind one. Just my opinion.

Sorry to thread jack but could you post in another thread some pics of your engine bay, im really curious about this caddy swap now...and also what would be the downside of a 350 vs a 400 or maybe even a 700? Thanks man.

The front wrap and inner fenders are off the truck right now. Bed is off too. The only thing on the Frame is the cab and doors. Im in the "putting it back together stage".

As far as the TH350 you would want a very well built one behind a Caddy 500. Only because of the gobs of torque these motors make even in stock form. A 700r4 that would live behind a 500 would cost thousands to build. I looked into it. Your money would be better spent getting a GearVenders's unit to go behind a TH400. Nearly bullet proof.

If I remember right, that thread that's in the link above was started way back in 2002. Lots and Lots of good info if you're interested in the 500 Caddy. Didn't know if you'd seen it yet. Hope that helps.

the caddy motor uses a b.o.p. trans not a regular gm trans.as far as i know no one makes an adapter to use any other trans.you need this style of trans

u need the u shaped case.heres some links to give a better idea on the cads performance.
