Re: One For 72freak
I saved a motor picture in my "motors" album, but must have past it over(damn small tiles or whatever they`re called). But,yeah,It`s got 427!!
I just think that car is the essence of the`63 Galaxy:black on black(look at the chrome accents in the seats! And,the side moulding),chrome reverses with stock hubcaps...Then,there`s the Thunderbolt-stylr fresh air intakes and bubble hood. That Ford is SEXY!I told you before, when we were AMT model buildin`kids my buddy`s mom drove a black/red int.`64 390/4spd XL500 and I spent alot of time being hauled around in that back seat or the passenger bucket a time or two. I always thought it was cool how the 61,62,&63 Fairlanes and Galaxys looked about the same, just different sizes.

Re: One For 72freak
In 1967 thru 1969, I had an all-red '63 2door Hardtop XL (bucket seats & extra trim) Ford - the one which came out before the 63-1/2 XL's (like the one in the photo); they were what were called "square-backs" after the 1/2 year "fastbacks" came out, & were never as popular as the fastbacks.
Sad to say I didn't ever even have a picture taken of it. Nothin left anymore. Just the memories of cruisin'. Damn-fast car, stock, with only a 352-4 barrel & 4-speed. I put in a Hurst shifter with that big 'ol white knob on it. Can't imagine what the 427 Hi-perf versions must have been like to drive. Last edited by 68shortstep; 08-22-2007 at 10:55 AM. Re: One For 72freak
Passed everything on the road but a gas station.
Summer of '69 when I got rid of it (my Dad said: "you're getting married son, - time to settle down"). That summer we had a gas war, as well as another one going on. Remember gas wars, anybody ????? Regular went from 19.9 cents/gallon all the way down to 13.9 !!!!! |

Re: One For 72freak
I actually owned one of these when I was in the Navy. Only Ford I have ever had.... They are a car that looks better the more you look at it.

Myself, I would rather have the yellow '40 Chev coupe or the beige '26/7 T coupe but I'm a sucker for hotrods........ Thanks for sharing the pics. LockDoc
