Metal fuel tank - gas hose fill question

Either my tank is in the wrong position or??? The new metal tank fits like a glove in the correct holes( I hope ), but the filler neckis behind the body mount. Any Ideas where I might be able to get some 90 deg. filler hose? What is everbody else doing? I sure hate to do some cutting on the tub.

Re: Metal fuel tank - gas hose fill question

I've heard about this problem from a few members with "stock" replacement tanks. In fact, one guy bought the tank fill neck from me that I cut out of an original tank, so he can solder it onto his brand new tank. I'm not sure what the others have done. Maybe took the tank to someone with a tubing bender to move it to where you need it.

I believe that I've read that a few have even used rubber hose to redirect the filler tube to the proper location.
I'm sure others will jump in to give you very valuable advice.

Re: Metal fuel tank - gas hose fill question

This has been covered many times, try a search, someone had a complete write up of his install.

But in a nut shell. The stock fill tube has a bend to it and is longer than the fill tube that comes on the replacement tanks. Some have taken off the original fill tube from their old tank and then had a muffler shop solder it onto the new tank. Or, as I have done, I got some marine gas hose, it has an internal spring, so it won't collapse as you bend it. Works great. Someday I will have my original filler tube soldered to my new tank, but I don't want to take it out now, it's full of gas.

Hope this helps

Re: Metal fuel tank - gas hose fill question

Here is a good thread on the subject http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=212828

As you can see on page two of that post I ended up cutting the filler neck off of the old tank and used about a 4" piece of 1 3/8" fuel hose that goes directly off of the new tank's filler neck then to the old filler neck that was attached to the tank. That fixed my problem.

ORD 1" body lift gives you some extra space to make the turn if you are leaning that way anyways.
