offset air cleaner pics and questions

This is what it looks like so far (ALOT of cleaning, sanding, priming, sanding... )

Qeustion 1 - The green piece in the box, what is it called and should I be able to get one at most parts stores? (It sits inside the air cleaner, on the bottom)
Question 2 - my service manual says to make sure it sits the way it came out - I didn't see that statement until I had it all apart - any idea which end points which way?
Question 3 - the two vacuum lines off the bottom of the item in question 2 go where? (and from which end of it to where)
Question 4 - The "vacuum module" that sits on the snorkle - it moves freely (the diaphragm) but it takes more vacuum than I can make with my mouth... should it be that hard to actuate?
Question 5 - where does the module vacuum line run to?
Question 6 - In the next pic, there is a gap around where the heater tube engages the stand off - there is a ring around the base of the tube - should the ring sit flush against the stand off or move freely entirely until bolted up?
Question 7- the two medium sized bolts that anchor the support strut to the pas side of the block had thread sealer of some sort on them. Do they actually go into holes that require sealer?
Question 8 - There is quite a size difference in the vacuum tube off the carb riser - between the one that came with it (clean one) and the one I have that came off an engine with a smog pump setup. Is there any "one better than the other" reason to use one or the other?
Thanks for any and all input!

Re: offset air cleaner pics and questions

The green thing is an air temp sensor. It allows vacum to open the flapper valve in the pipe to allow cool air in when the air entering the air cleaner is at or a bove a certain temp. One vacum line will goto the flapper valve (aka, thermactor valve) & the other goes to a port on the carb (i dont know which one).

Yes, the flapper valve is hard to move.

I'm not sure what you are refering to in Q6.

Q7 - No they dont, I think thats va thread locker rather than a sealant

& as for the pipe that runs from manifold to the cleaner, it doesnt matter. Just as long as you have hot air getting in there when the air temp sensor calls for it, you are good. If you have more questions, feel free to post here.

luvlegs: I don't want to start any trouble, but I just don't get that quote about hitting cats (or any animal) in the head with a hammer. You are not into "Animal Cruelty", are you? It doesn't make sense.
Sorry, it just bugs me...probably no one else.

It's a statement related to common sense; for most people, the majority of the time, you don't have to state the obvious - (which the quote does).

It could very well be a grizzly bear, a camel or a shark... if anything gets hit between the eyes with a hammer, chances are, it's going to blink (right?).

Alot of the time, when someone has an issue, THE AVERAGE person would take the K.I.S.S. approach (keep it simple silly) - THEN go ask for help. With that in mind, I avoid asking some one having vehicle issues, if they are out of gas.... (MOST times).
