67-72 truck meet: WEST COAST REGION

back to the truck meet subject, i think everyone agreed that split regions is the way to go, so leave it to me to attempt to put together a west coast meet.
what we need is input on who is willing to travel to where, so keep in mind, THE MORE INPUT WE GET ON WHERE HAVE THE EVENT TAKE PLACE, THE MORE TURN OUTS WE'LL GET.
so lets say the furthest east would be the east border of nevada, north to south

Some initial recommendations:
RENO, NV place of hot august nights of course
PLEASANTON, CA home place of the western region hot rod nationals, as well as the Good Guys home on the west coast, and the biggest swat meets the meet the west

other ideas welcome and encouraged!

Both of those locations are fine with me. I would either drive that distance (or trailer the truck and save several hundred bucks in gas) to attend a West Coast meet. Just don't plan it on short notice, like next month or something. I say we start planning now for a meet next Spring or Summer. I'm assuming that was the plan anyway. I'm about 6 or 7 hours from either of those locations.

I'd prefer Reno to CA. I'd go to either.

I guess Redding wouldn't be bad either, at least not for me because it's closer. And, if this meet is held during a hot time of the year (and it does get hot in Redding), don't you guys have a water park there? What about a meeting place, like fairgrounds or a park?

I think we need to get some numbers of who all is interested in attending a West Coast meet and where they are from. Then find the best centralized location to make it fair and easiest for everyone.

Thumbs up

RENO IS REAL CLOSE TO ME (ABOUT 30 MILES) WITH LOTS OF AREAS TO HOST A SHOW N SHINE. & THERE IS A 1/8 MI. STIP AT THE STEAD AIR PORT (ABOUT 15 MILES) NORTH & A 1/4 MILE STRIP AT FERLEY (ABOUT 28 MILES EAST). I'LL EVEN VOLENTEER TO DO ALOT OF THE LEG WORK. THERES A FEW MEMBERS IN THIS AREA THAT I'M SURE WOULD HELP ALSO. THERES ALOT OF ENTERTAINMENT IN THIS AREA (WATERPARK, CASINOS,BROTHELS (WHOREHOUSES), RIVERS, PARKS & CAMPGROUNDS & THE CASINOS HAVE CHEAP (INEXPENSIVE) MOTEL ROOMS & FOOD. BUT I'D BE WILLING TO TRAVEL ANYWHERE ON THE WEST COAST. LET'S DO IT!!!!

weve got progress

now that weve got some interest and some great suggestions on where to go, were gonna need someone from the Reno area, the Redding area and the Pleasanton area to look into a spot and either find out who we need to talk to about using the meet area for the three day event (does everyone agree on that?), or let us on the board know who to get a hold of.

and im agreeing with pont, we need number on whos interested and where theyre from to get the best centralized location. should we start a poll for pleasanton, redding, or reno?

but even if we do decide based on a poll, a lot also depends on which city can accomodate our needs for a three day event some time next summer (summer, right?). ill look into Pleasanton, its about 75 miles for me

But I'd come to Redding or Reno.

My vote is for Turlock Serously, this is a great idea, my Chevelle website friends always get together 2X a year and some very good friendships have developed from doing just that. I would like to attend, if you guys don't mind? I might have the truck ready by then, but not sure at this time. I just sprayed the truck last night with poly primer, and soon to have it painted in 6-8 weeks after I am happy with the body.
Sorry to get off track there, remember, Redding has a dragstrip for us hot rodders, and Reno would have lots of nighttime activities to keep us all busy
Gabet40, I am min from you, hit me up and stop over anytime neighbor.

well i was looking into the Pleasanton fairgrounds calender of events, and in early June of this year they had the 9th Good Guys/K&N summer get together with 2,200 cars, trucks etc and a big swap meet (http://www.good-guys.com/events/even...entID=SUMMER02). at Good Guys August Hot Rod show, theres 3,500 cars, so theres more than enough room for us.
so if joining a car show already going on is favored, this is the one. but if we want to start an annual 67-72 truck show of our own and try to expand every year, i also emailed the person that works at the Reno Livestock Event Center about the availability, booking, etc. and i have a phone # for the pleasanton fairgrounds

Chevypunk makes a good point, there is alot of Washington state members as well as Oregon members on this board and I'm sure alot of them would like to attend this meet. If Pleasanton or Reno is the decided location, that's quite a drive for the Washington members. This is why I stated in an earlier post that if we have enough members interested in a 67-72 meet on the West Coast, we may have to consider 2 locations to start with. Maybe one in Central Cali or Nevada and one in Northern Oregon, just to cover the West Coast. If turnouts get big with 2 West Coast meets, we could then think about holding a bi-yearly single location that everyone goes to. Hard to say at this point...........

I still think we need to concentrate on who's interested in a West Coast meet, get a head count and where they are from. When that's done, getting a location should be a little easier to decide on. A West Coast meet might warrant 2 locations depending on who's interested in attending and where they are driving from.
