How many have you killed...

I am bored and just doing some math here. My progect just began one month ago and I have already stripped one truck of parts and sent to the crusher so there has to be a lot of truck carnage going on out there to restore these babies. I was figuring that at lest 5 trucks get destroyed to create one fully restored truck. If there are 33k members on these forums that equals 165,000 trucks that go to truck heaven from our restoration processes. You all think this number is close and how many have you killed restoring your pride and joy.

Re: How many have you killed...

Well I didnt kill it. It was dead when I got it. I stripped it of what parts i needed and sent the rest to the scrap truck grave yard. So far...I've sent one to the crusher

Re: How many have you killed...

I've taken parts off A LOT of junkyard trucks and bought lots of parts off board members, so my 67 is a mutt with little pieces here and there from probably 30 trucks

In the mid nineties my dad and I brought about 10-12 of these trucks to the scrapyard. They were all shot NY trucks. They're Toyota's now.

Re: How many have you killed...

To use all original "Clean" GM sheet metal that lines up pretty easy.

It has taken 4 trucks for various parts to make one real nice clean 68 SWB.

I scrapped 2 POS trucks to make one truck that was still a POS, but better than it was.

1 truck parted out and sold to some one else but none to the bone yard yet it will take about 10 all right trucks to get my next project on the road

I think, if you count the ones I have scrapped and the ones I have ripped parts off of at the pick n pull, 9. But not all the parts went to mine so not sure how to figure it.

To set up my K20 I parted a 70gmc and then stripped and crushed a 67c10.

Re: How many have you killed...

I junked the 69 C10 I totalled and saved what I could and scrapped the rest of it,and a 71 c10 due to frame rust..I junked the body on my short 4wd since it was rusty and replaced it with a less rusty body.I did keep anything good of them,as with any other trucks..But,it's taken 6 trucks to make my short 4wd so far,and I ain't done yet...then I have to start tearing into more junkyard trucks to get started on the k5...

Re: How many have you killed...

Whew!! What a question. I have parted about 20 of them over the years, and I have used 2 for my 67 C-30. Here are the pics of the 2 I'm using for my C-30, and also here is a pic of the retriever!
What's bad is that both of the trucks in the pics would have made great restorable trucks. The red one I used the bed off of runs and drives, but I'm thinking about shortening it and putting one of my SWB beds on it.

Re: How many have you killed...

Mine's pretty much the same as when I bought it 30 years ago.

Well, it's rustier & crustier, and has wider wheels & tires... but no trucks have died to keep it going.

I am there with you, I have parted out many of these trucks but always pass them on to someone else to get the rest of the parts that they needed.

Re: How many have you killed...

this will probably piss off some people but in the past 20+ years my cousin and myself sent well over 200, 67-72s to truck heaven. we used to have an abundance of these trucks around here at reasonable prices and they were worth more dead than alive.
