Was thinking about installing some marine speakers in my Blazer. It will be topless most of the time, and thought this might help avoid problems if get caught out in the rain. Sounds good to me, but I don't know anything about them...what makes them marine speakers???

Also, plan on putting my amp (already have one, but not marine-if there even is such) inside the center console. How much air space does it need? Will it be a problem totally sealed - no air circulation???

Having no air circulation for the amp will cause problems. The amp will need at least some fresh air in order to cool down, otherwise it will just over heat.

Marine speakers aren't very different from a conventional speaker, they just have a sealed case to keep moisture away from the electronic bits. They don't sound as good as a convential speaker though.

The Amp will need some type of airflow so not to overheat. As for Marine speakers, there is a little difference. The cones are made of a water resistant material and the case is made a little different than the conventional speakers to help resist water from entering from the back. As for sound quality, IMO will sound just as well as their conventional counterpart. A buddy of mine has a 78 CJ7 and went that route as well. His system sounds great. As for his amps, he suspended them about 2" from the floor so if t rains while the top is down, the amps won't be sitting in the water. He put a plex-glass over the top so the top of the amp won't get any water on them as well.

Okay thanks, that all makes since!
I had another idea for the amp...I plan on making some side panels for the rear interior out of aluminum tread plate. What if I mounted the amp on the inside of these (between the bed skin & panel). Would leave an air space of about, I'm guessing, 4" deep & 6' long. Would it overheat there? Just trying to think of where it would be secure & out of the weather with the top off.

So long as the amp can recieve fresh air constantly and consistantly, you'll be fine.

You could use computer fans to aid in circulation. They run on 12V and they are offered in a variety of sizes, CFM, and noise ratings. Just set up a relay on the remote turn on lead from the head unit that will power the fan and turn on the amps.
