Got a lead on a '72 Cheyenne Super LWB, WHat do ya figure its worth? Help!
Guy I know says his dad has a '72 Cheyenne Super LWB, AC, PS,PDB, V-8/Automatic, 7-hole gauge long wheelbase truck. It may even be a tilt column truck!
He says it has been kept inside for its entire life and his father bought it new. It is however a long wheelbase fleetside truck. I am tld it doesn't need a thing but a washing and gas and the son is a very reliable source on these things. I am contemplating buying it and selling the bed once I see what condition it is in. I want to make it a shortwheelbase truck. Whats it worth and what do I do? Josh

Garage kept and rust free above 10k. If you buy for less you got a deal. These trucks are not gettin' cheaper. Looked at a 70 SWB 87k auto. A good clean truck he wanted 8,500 for it. Good luck!!

There was a time that garage kept loaded out trucks would hardly bring 3500.00. Lately I have been seeing them go for 8000.00 and up. People are finding it cheaper to cut them down than try to build a rusted out shortie...

Yeah, I really don't know what he is going to ask for it, Rumor is it is an extremely nice truck, hate to cut it up, but dangit if the price is right. It seemed as though you could buy these trucks all day around my town for 800.00 or so, now they are ultra rare, I can't figure out what happened.

I saw a shorty the other day for sale.It had rusted out cab corners, rockers, floorboards and bed floor. The grille was there but not good for more than a working truck. Both doors had some rust in the lower panels.I did not crawl under it so I don't know about the frame. The bedsides, one front fender, both window regulators, all the dash knobs and trim and upholstry needed replacement. He wanted $2500.00 for it but would throw in new rockers. There was no motor or tranny and who knows what other little pieces were missing.

There is one like that about 5 miles from here for 800.00. The cab and doors are really nice but again I am looking for a driver.

Pardon me for asking, but why would you want to take a truck in great condition and make it into 1/2 a truck? I guess if you need to put anything in it you could get one of those "bed-extenders".

Actually, that's an interesting point. People are gonna have to start checking the shortbeds that are for sale to see if they are actual shortbeds or just cut down longbeds. I would think that the value for a real shortbed should be higher.

Re: Got a lead on a '72 Cheyenne Super LWB, WHat do ya figure its worth? Help!
If you buy the truck and and plan to keep it forever then do what makes you happy...But...I would think if you sell it someday it it will not have the value of a true swb truck. Possibly it might hurt the resale value. I like swb trucks but I will never consider cutting my 70cst lwb truck to make it a shorty. Sounds like it is good find. Good Luck. I hope you get it. These trucks are getting harder to find at a good price. PS...if you do buy it and cut it down for a swb keep me in mind as I need a better lwb bed.

Thats what I planned to do, cut the bed down on the '47 IH but thats because you cannot find a bed for that pig, but I would definitly give someone the oppurtunity to own a nice lwb Cheyenne bed. I am not that cold hearted. Well see if he wants to sell it, if not I found a swb 70 cst.

I would avoid that truck like the plague as they are never as nice as the seller claims. Stick with an original SWB and you will never regret it.
