Tubbed 55

Well I have started my project and figured I would start my build
diary. It started life as a complete farm truck found in West Texas. My plans are to obviolsy tubb the rear. I am building a 496 BBC with a 400 trans, 9" F rd. the front will be a IFS. The outside will stay stock. Still playing with color.

Re: Tubbed 55

Will not know how much the rear end will be narrowed until after I buy the rear suspension and mock it up. The ugly grill guard was homemade and welded to the front bumper. That was chuncked along with the headache rack behind the rear glass.

Re: Tubbed 55

Sooo glad to hear the grill guard is gone. Looked like hillbillies were herding sheep with that truck. But back to that rear suspension. Have you sorted out what your gonna install or still exploring options? Do you have that 496 BB or building it?

Re: Tubbed 55

Probably going to use a ladder bar setup from Chassisworks. I will be building the motor and have only the stock 454 block so far.

Re: Tubbed 55

What size are those tires? I have some 31x15x16.5" MT on some Weld wheels on my truck. My rearend is narrowed and they just tuck into the fender with about a inch left.

Re: Tubbed 55

Thanks, No more progress pics yet. I had the seat installed so I could weld in the new mounts but it is now back in the closet. The seat was given to me by my Dad. It is out of a old Impala that is already has excellent upholstery in black. He took the seat out of his 1957 Chevy when he found his correct seat. He also gave me the back seat cover so I could make some door panels to match.

Re: Tubbed 55

You might want to take another look at your track bar. Having that front heim mounted that way is very weak, and side loads will try to force the "ball" out of the "socket" of the heim. Having it mounted 90 degrees from that position, so the bolt is vertical will place the load more correct, in a way that the joint was designed for.

The rest looks really good.
