was just wondering if there was a easier way to strip the anidized coating off a grill. i did a couple small spots where it was scrached by sanding and it really polishes up nice but i think it will take forever to do it all like that. will a chemical stripper remove the coating? any one have a secret they want to share?

nah man. even if there was. its better if you do it the Right way. you will thank your self later.

Easy-Off! Yep, good ole fashioned sodium hydroxide oven cleaner. Spray it on let it set for a spell, but don't let it dry. Spray again if necessary to keep the surface wet for 10-15 minutes (do this on a cool-ish day in the shade if possible). Rinse off thoroughly. Start cuttin' and polishin'! Beware if there's any paint like in the cross bar or around the headlight....it'll take that off too- so you'll have to repaint.

I picked up a bottle of stuff at a swap meet one time. Will see if I can find it and post the name. Suppose to take it right off. Of course, you have to keep it polished after you do.

yea i know i dont want to do this again i got 41/2 hours in haf of it and still don't have the shine i was hoping for but good enough for a work truck.how about clear coating it to protect it? i have seen it pealing on wheels and looks worse than it did before i started but theres no turning back now but it is 100 times better

Easy off was a a tried and true method years ago. It does not work as good like it used to.(like most good stuff). Do a search for anodizing and there are forums for that to. There are better methods. I tried the easy off a couple of years ago and it didn't do very good at all. I remove it now with a kit from Caswells that uses chromic acid and phosporic acid under an electrical charge. not real complicated and is easier.

Mek will take it right of there. Thats what i use to remove clear coat from rims

1 aplication of the oven cleaner did not remove it but it sure made it sand off easier

Gotta be CAREFUL with the MEK.
In Hazmat lingo it's call METHYL ETHYL DEATH!
