Engine Code Help

I am trying to figure out what engine I have in my 1970 C10 Custom. Numbers I got off front of engine by water pump are V1105TAX. Any idea what vehicle this engine came from?

Re: Engine Code Help

It is probably a 1970 engine but the casting date would be needed to confirm the year of the engine.

Here is the breakdown on the code you posted: V1105TAX

V= Flint Assembly Plant
11= November, (month of assembly)
05= Day of assembly (No year is in the code)

TAX= 1970 350 CID, w/4bbl carb, rated at 255 hp, with automatic transmission. The engine was used in C-10's as well as other series trucks.

Engines with the TAX suffix were also used in 1972 model trucks.

Re: Engine Code Help

The casting date is on the back of the block on the semi round part where the transmission bolts up. If your truck is 2 wheel drive, you may be able to see it behind the distributor looking down on the back of the engine. A mirror and flashlight can be used but the casting dates are hard to see.
