Im cleaning out my 67 CST getting ready to sell her and discovered this canister over in the corner where the jack usually sits...what the heck is it?

not stock, thats for sure. The lines look like the moden fittings on the air system of a semi.
You tried following the lines yet?

The copper tube in the plastic is broken off, and the white plastic tube goes along the floor pan and comes out the firewall. Its just hanging there over the wheel well. It has a fitting on it for screwing the tubing into something. I dont see a thing or any evidence of something being there.

It's a small auxilary gas tank....it's hard to fit a second tank behind the seat... It won't hold much gas now, but in a year or two it will probably hold about $50.00 worth

Good guesses...I think

Here is another pic of it after removal. Its pretty thin metal and it sure doesn't look like it can be pressurized with the crappy seams.

If it stinks of gas fumes it could be some sort of crude vapor canister invention or one of those get 100 MPG inventions.

I think it was some type of cooling device for fuel.
