thorley headers

Who is running the full tube tri-y? Do the nickle ones blue and look bad after a while I see they have ceramic coated ones as well is it worth the extra money?

Next How do they fit, do you have to notch the frame, do they clear motor mounts? Also how many inches below the frame do they hang?

If you have any pics and part numbers that would rock.

I am at a crossroad between the thorleys and the ECE sanderson 3/4 length?

I have a 3 inch drop in front but am running some nasty poor fitting headmans now(PO) and they are full lengh and I have never bottomed them out yet.

So I am thinking more power full length, better look and less hanging exhaust 3/4.

Anyway I know the ECE ones fit nice and look really good. But still would like to run full tube for the low end pull and the thorleys look sick.

thanks for any help

Re: thorley headers

Hey 76bonanza ...
I have tri-y's on my 402BB. They are not ceramic which was a bad decision on my part. Fit was good as I called and talked to the Tech. department and they were very helpful and gave me the correct part number. The sound with flowmaster 40 series is a very deep throat sound.
I hope this helps.

Re: thorley headers

Sanderson 3/4 length for me for all the same reasons that you stated and one more reason as well is I do bottom out from time to time with these full length Hedman headers and I can't take it anymore (IT'S EMBARRASSING AS ALL GET OUT!!). Ceramic coating is the only way to go. Sanderson coats theirs in and out, gauranteed not to leak 3/8 flange and made to fit our trucks. What more can a guy ask for. Ceramic coatings may grey right at where they bolt on to the engine but that kinda blends unlike a chrome finish that goes blue.

ECE is out of stock right now but I'm hoping their stock will be in wed. of this week.

Bottom end tork or bottoming out .... trust me you will notice bottoming out more then the bottom end tork that might be lacking will ever be noticed.

esll.

These are sweet can hardly wait till their at my house .....

Re: thorley headers

Hey 70 cst can you see how low below the frame they are. the headers I have now the bottom of the header flange is about three inches below frame and I have no clearance problems so far. Can anyone comment on the cermic coated ones?

Re: thorley headers

Thanks that would help a bunch I have a 3inch drop in front and really don't scrap nothing now. But would not want them to hang much lower.

Re: thorley headers

Hey 76bonanza ...
I think my truck has a 2"/4" drop w/o any issues. But to be honest the truck has been driven very little since the headers were installed. I plan on having all the mechanics done this fall/winter and I am going to see if I can get the tri-y's ceramic coated. As mentioned I did not pay the extra for the ceramic coating...that was real decision.

The truck is stored in the corn crib so 70cstjr can get the pics for you.
