I'm looking at this motor for my '69 C-20 with a 350 and TH400.
It has Vortec heads and a one piece rear seal. Is this a straight swap, or will I run into into any problems as far as accessories bolting to the heads and motor mounts?

I can't help you on the technical side of it but...

I'm looking at getting a "crate" 327 to put in my truck and did some looking on ebay, they have much better deals than jegs/summit. Check this one out

Brock, I've checked out some on E-bay, but you really don't know who your dealing with. The motor you linked to is a 2 bolt block, and who knows what heads, probaly 2 piece rear main seal. A GM crate motor is brand new, something to think about...

great point on not knowing what your getting, but the same goes for Jegs or Summit. For $500-700 in savings I'd give them a call and ask about the heads or whatever.

What was Jegs' warranty...it wouldn't open for me.

It's a straight swap with no issues. The Vortecs have accessory holes in them, everything else should be good to go.

Well, I'm thinking about a GM Crate motor specifically, and from what I understand about it you can order them from your local Chevy dealer. The warranty is a year I believe. If you look at that guys prices for 4 bolt mains and 330 HP, he want's $3000, yes, your getting the intake, carb and valve covers, but it's also a "seasoned block" and a lot of the components he's using in the build are no name crap. The GM Crate motor is the latest Gen I technology, Vortec heads, 1 piece rear main seal and it's new for $2,519.99, $11.99 for handling, $149.00 for shipping. Sounds like a good deal to me.
I bought a rebuilt/remanufactured motor here in L.A. that I thought was a good deal, but 10,000 miles later wasn't at all. Once bitten, twice shy.

IMHO, it's a good engine at a pretty good price. The parts are all right and well-matched, and it's one of the few engines that has a cam that's really suitable for our trucks (vs. a muscle car).

It's worth looking for a GMPP dealer in your area vs. just ordering from your local Chevy dealer. Sometimes the dealers that don't deal in performance parts don't want to mess with this stuff, whereas the GMPP dealers do.

I have the GMPP 330 HP 350CI in my '71 GMC stepside. I bought it last year as a turn key engine (include front accessories and serpentine belt). I bought it from a local Chevrolet dealer and had nothing but good luck with it. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Unless you can pick up a GMPP crate at your local dealer, you CAN NOT beat buying from Summit Racing. Search on line and find the best advertised deal possible, then call Summit Racing. They will beat that price AND ship it for free. They will ask for the website and verify that the price is legit, but they will beat it.

They also stock what they sell. Some places sell, then order it from another supplier.....

N2TRUX, no disagreement in general but I have found two GMPP dealers that provide a great price and no shipping cost as long as you're willing to wait for their next truck

Key point is to ask your dealer...then shop around.

had the 350-330hp for about 3 years couldn't be more pleased.....plenty of power and torgue did a little upgrade and added a blower then it really came to life......don't think you would regret getting one.....have fun with it i do....

That's what I found too. When I bought my Ramjet, I found some very good deals on the net. The problem was they didn't stock them. I called Summit, beat the best price I had found and they had it in stock. I had it shipped to Stoked Out Specialties and it arrived that week.....

Remember one thing if you get the 350 H.O. Deluxe, you will need to change the waterpump (it is a reverse flow) unless you are running a serpentine belt system. I have had one in my truck since 2000 and have not had any problems with it.

Can someone clarify this for me..... Is the coolant flow actually reversed, or is the flow the same as always and just the direction the water pump spins reversed due to the way the serpentine belt runs?

I did the same about 4 years ago. I think it has about 8K on it now and it's down a cylinder

I'm thinking about the GM Gen 1 "generic" long block for $1,800.

I bought the Vortec 350 HO, dropped it in and didn't change the water pump. Have run it hard on occasion (long four-lane runs at 75+ mph) with no problems. The warmest it's gotten is 190 deg, and that was on a summer day.

One thing I did do though, was change the intake from non-heated to heated. In our climate it runs a lot better on those cool/cold mornings.

They must have changed it after 2000. Mine kept pushing out water until I figured out it was the water pump. Nevermind what I said before.

I got mine from the GM dealership in Manassas, Va. When I ordered the pump from Summit, I told one of the techs about my problem. Maybe he passed it along.
