Another GM NOS TG vs Repop TG---AGAIN!

There's been a little confusion lately about the difference between GM & Repop TGs. Someone seemed to think the repops weighed under 30lbs & GMs over 50lbs.
Well, the ones I sell must be the HD model repops! I just weighed (again on a new digital scale) both again. Results: NOS GM = 54lbs and the Repop = 45lbs. That should be close enough for all uses except maybe dropping airplane engines on them.
Both are new, primered, straight and look good. You can see the spot welds on the NOS, but that can be filled and worked out.
I will sell you a Repop for about $300 or sometimes you can still find an NOS for about $800 or more.
So what is a "take off" worth with original paint, no dents and the almost new GM handle & hardware??? Amazingly enough, they usually sell for LESS than the NOS. Go figure!
If you don't like any repop parts, fine, but let's keep the information accurate so those who can't find or afford original can still make up their own minds.

The fit on mine was excellent (but there isn't exactly a lot to line up )

Re: Another GM NOS TG vs Repop TG---AGAIN!

i think there are better and worse quality re-pops out there, maybe someone needs to start a thread on which ones are better than others and get personal experiences on different manufacturers. the price of used ones is getting high, and for people not using their trucks for heavy duty use, a good, heavy, nice fitting repro would be a very good alternative. but i agree with pickmup, not all are junk and shouldn't be categorized all together. just my .02

these trucks don't need vacuum gauges cause they don't suck!

The last NOS gate I bought I paid $400 for it. It was on this board for sale for months with a lot of bites and no takers. Yeah it had about 3 dings in it but hey! I even had it delivered to within 25 miles of my home for that price!

A buddy got a stamped repop at a swap meet for $280. Just because it had the GM certified sticker he thinks its a NOS. I don't have the heart to tell him, plus don't want to argue.

A repop gate would be good only if you want a cheap restoration or driver quality. If your'e goin for a top of the line restoration and goin to spend alot of $$$, then always go for the nos one or a straight original.

If I remember correctly, there's only one company that repops these. Goodmark and Tri-Plus are just retailers of the same product.
