Re: went to the drag strip tonight with my 72
what gear do you have..3.23? Your MPH is good enough for a mid 14 second run. Either you were spinning real bad or you got some highway gears in her.
The main question????? did you have fun???

Re: went to the drag strip tonight with my 72
i forgot 3.08 gears with a posi. didnt spin any off the line, pulled good and hard all the way down. i think if i had 3.73,s i could have got into the 15,s though.
had tons of fun. might install my edelbrock aluminum manifold also a set of 2 1/2" dual exhaust with flowmasters , the vette 2 1/2" outlet ram horns i,ve got and see if it picks up any . i,d sure like to get around 100 mph and low 15,s. if i was rich i,d install 3.73 gears and a GV - O.D. WITH A 1350 DRIVE LINE . oh well it was the best part of my day, the rest stunk. i ran over a car chaseing dog and super bumed me out as i really like dogs......... bob

Ain't that the truth!. I also like when guys say they have 400 + horses and the timeslips prove otherwise. I agree that 89 mph should be in the mid 14's. Glad you had fun except for the dog part

Ill concur with what was already said. Hell, when I was running those times I was trapping something like 73-74 MPH.

I miss the track too. When I get back on my feet enough that I feel comfortable with my driving I will get out the old 72 Nova and give it another shot.

Re: went to the drag strip tonight with my 72
I've takin my gmc to the track a few times. I was running 15.9s @ 87ish (can't remember exact times....its been awhile) with horible 60' times (no traction).
I'm planning on my 68 being a bracket racer, should be running in the 12s. |

Re: went to the drag strip tonight with my 72
Sure wish I had a 1/4 mile track close by, I'd be there at least once a month if only for the fun factor.

Re: went to the drag strip tonight with my 72
Our historic local track,75 & 80,was closed last year. It`s where "Motor Week" ran their track tests.Had a go cart track, too.Yuppie Castles ran them off.
I bet you`d see better times opening up that exhaust. All that motor into single 2 1/2" seems a bit restrictive to me.I respect your choice, just my $.02.
