Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

Does anyone make a bolt on 2 1/2" exhaust system for our trucks? I prefer mandrel bent over the local exhaust shop bender. Names like Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Heartbeat, do they make em for our trucks? How well do they fit?

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

I am going to the local Mandrel bend shop this week to get my header back system made. I am running hooker headers with flowmaster 44 mufflers attached...then the mandrel benmt stuff out to the side before the rear wheels. I can give you the info once im finished everything...($$ and where to get)

I thought Magnaflow's kit went over the axle- all stainless!

Jay, I can't wait to get the details/pics!

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

Yes Magnaflow has a kit. LMC carries it. Once you get the part number, plug it into an Ebay search. It's sold by a few Ebay sellers.

It's made for longbeds, but can be cut down for shortbeds.

I installed the kit LMC has in their catalog. The kit fit great.
The only piece I needed to buy that wasn't included in the kit was an exhaust hanger because my truck was NOT a factory dual exhaust truck.

The LMC kit was made by Heartbeat here in Minnesota.

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

The Magnaflow setup is for coil spring only, but I don't remember why. I'll look in old emails from them and find out. IMHO, it's one heck of a deal. It sells for ~$500 through Summit. Their Dyno showed a 10 HP and 22 lb/ft gain in torque. It's an all stainless, mandrel bent kit. Great product!

Classic Trucks magazine did an article on the Magnaflow kit on a 72 they have been working on. Here is the article.

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

Kewl, I do have a GMC truck with rear leaf springs, but I am switching it all over to a 71 Chevy frame, when I decide to do the body off restoration.

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

im confused why people want to spent double the amount on pre-bend exhaust systems, just so they can say I have a borla or magnaflow systems. I wonder If Dale jr. buys his system out of a catalog as well? It doesn't matter who makes it, what matters is the diameter of the Pipe and what mufflers you install. A full custom 3in installed system will cost your at a reputable Muffler/Fab shop $250-300 plus Flowmasters. Now with the saved money you can buy yourself a nice camshaft for that extra 40 hp

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

Because up here in Indiana they salt the roads in the winter, which make sh** rust. Even though I don't drive my truck in the winter, it still sits on a concrete floor and begins to oxidize. Plus it looks better and performs better and lasts longer. I like to do things right the first time.

The magnaflow stainless kit sells on ebay for 480 (or best offer on some of them!) and most offer free shipping. The polished stainless mufflers are included.

So... pay an exhaust shop 300 + buy your own mufflers = $400?

For an extra 80 you get a stainless exhaust system, an x-pipe, and an over-the-axle exhaust system. That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

You are comparing Ebay to Oranges? That is best case scenerio and you still need to eighter a pay someone to install it or b lay underneath your vehicle and try to bolt/weld it up! Im talking buying a system at a retail store at retail price not Ebay. My last system I had installed was custom fit to my headers with one chambers, 3in, H pipe, and cut out to one each out of the side of my body panel and I paid a total of $250 and it sounds so mean it will em-barres every Mustang. It also helps to know that the guys at TBI Fabricate anything from custom headers to rolling chassis 5sec drag cars. You just cant get this kinda stuff out of a cookie cutter exhaust system.

Whats the difference? Does the local muffler shop use pliers to bend em?

Bayer, now you have me curious. What place did you get that job done? Was the pipe stainless steel, aluminized or something else?

Galvanized steel which will certainly get the job done. In my opinion, unless you have an at least $25k or more classic car, a stainless system is overkill especially for a daily driver. also if you habits are like me, change your cars often, you be wasting your money with anything more that galvanized. You can call Tim Bradham's Chassis Work (TBI) (910) 424-9811 Fayetteville, NC and he can Fab you up anything you want @ $50 an hour.

Re: Pre bent exhaust for our trucks?

Mandrel bent has a lot less restriction. The local shop uses the hydraulic bender which slightly smashes and crimps the pipe, thus restricting exhaust flow. Gain or lose 10-20 hp it's up to you.
