MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

I know I have seen postings about this before, but I can't seem tofind them when I search. I just bought some LED Tail lights from Mike at MuscleRodz. I have read on here before that you do not need the electronic flasher for these lights. So I installed the first one, no problems. Works fine. I install the second one and now no tail lights at all. So I went and bought the electronis flasher. Still nothing. I even tried putting everything back to the way it was before I had the LED tail lights and they still do not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is my daily driver.

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Fuse looks fine. I even tried a new one. I only checked the one labeled "tail stop". Is there another one I should check?

what's not working, the tail lights? The flasher has nothing to do with tail lights.

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

Sounds to me like a combination of events, like a bad/missing ground on that side; a corroded socket; a broken wire on the light socket assembly or anywhere between the switch and the taillight assembly. If you want to be sure that the LED's are working/bad, put it in the other side. I'm gonna bet it is good and you have the other options to check out.

Tried to put it on the other side. Does not work, nothing works at all now. Sockets look fine.

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

You may have shorted the harness during installation or the ground may not be as good now. Brainstorming.

If you have not already, take a test light and check for power. Start at the fuse, then work your way down the harness. At least this way you can figure out if the problem is in your rear wiring harness or if the rear wiring harness is even getting power. Again, I am brainstorming. I have no professional automotive electrical experience. But remember, electricity runs in circles. So think of big complicated interconnected circles.

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

Try taking and plugging them in the front. You said the front lights work right? It's the same bulb so you should be able to plug them in and see if they work in the front.

I will try that. Is there only one fuse for the tail lights and the parking lights?

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

I installed the Musclerodz taillights without any problem. I'd guess that you have a bad wire someplace in your system. You might have dislodged a weak connection. I'd pull the tailight bucket that caused the problem and see what you can see.

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

On their website they say that their led's are only rated for 7.7-14.0 volts. Im not sure if you guys have ever put a voltmeter on your tail lights, but i have and i know that they go up to 14.6volts (this may vary from vehicle to vehicle due to the original adjustable voltage regulator). This may cause a problem.

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

My guess would be a bad ground. I believe the grounds for the rear lights are behind the rear side marker lights. I have a set of the LED taillights from Musclerodz, and love them!! Check for power at the light sockets, then check the grounds.

check for power at the tail light themselves to see if they're getting power.

mike has been great with me in the past, and i'll be doing business w/musclerodz again in the future. have you given him a call yet?

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

No one has called yet, so if there is an issue with the lights themselves, I NEED TO KNOW!!! I have sold probably close to 100 sets of just the 67-72 lights and someone will eventually have a problem. We are dealing with 40 year old wiring and they usually will work perfect right up to the point where you change something. The voltage range is not the issue. My first guess is the socket is not making good contact with the plug. Make sure you have voltage at the socket. Check the lights themselves with a battery. If they don't send them back (you will be credited) and I will replace them. I have sold several hundred units over the last 6-8 months and out of those I think I have only returned one set.

Had the same problem with my lights! You can buy a cheap voltage tester at wal-mart for like 10 bucks. They're great to have around. I painted everything on my bed, so I ended up running a seperate gound wire from the bucket to the frame.

I have LED's I bought from PickMup (don't know who makes em) but I love 'em. A guy at work even commented how nice they look (and how bright they are) just today!

Re: MuscleRodz LED Tail light troubles

I checked the new lights and they are fine, nothing wrong with them. Something happened when I plugged them in. After everything stopped working I checked to see if there was power to the rear, none. I just ordered a new wiring harness after finding where I think the problem is.

Thanks for all the help.

MuscleRodz (mike),

I hope it didn't sound like I was saying something was wrong with the lights. If it did was not meant to sound like that. If I thought there was something wrong with them I would have called you. Just was trying to see if anyone had this happen to them also. Your service was great.
