I read a while back on here that somone instaled a ford starter relay to clear the wires from tuching the headders. Can somone tell me how t wire this? I have a HEI egnition. I was comming home from work last nite at 2AM when sudenly my starter engaged itself so I pull over to shut the engine off and it wont shut off. You should here that. it sounds like someone is doing a brake stand(at 2AM nice)talk abbout panic. After 2-3 minutes the starter quit(its dead) and now wont start. I'm thinking one of the wires touch one of the headder and f%$&ed all up.

Here's a pic of the Summit remote selenoid that I installed. It is the same as the Ford selenoid I am told.
Also, here are the instructions for the selenoid. ![]() ![]() ------------------ 1969 C20 4x4 with roughly 6" lift and 35's residing near Rose Hill, Kansas Yukon Jack's Web Pages

The wires hitting the headers would not do what you explained. The #1 reason to do the ford solinoid would be to stop the hot start issues.
Who ever designed these starters was sniffin glue. The solinoid gets hot, and will not work. Mount it up high, and the problem goes away. (it is still possable, but highly unlikely). It sounds to me like you had a wre short out with another hot wire under your dash...maybe the large hot on your starter and the purple wire wore through and made contact. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350.
