original hubcap question?
I was just wondering if anybody has ever seen a painted set of 3/4 ton 4x4 caps like would have came on a plain jane truck. I can't remember ever seeing a set but surely they came that way i would think most k-20 would have been plain jane models if any one has any pictures of some please post them thanks Mike

Re: original hubcap question?
k10s and 20s came with hub caps, my understanding is that they were painted white unless ordered with stainless dog dish or stainless full coverage. Here is a set of stainless driver quality ones I picked up for $40 shipped.

Re: original hubcap question?
Down south truckin: This is great question, I myself being a 3/4 ton 4wd fan have also wondered about this for years . I have never seen a painted 3/4 ton factory cutout 4wd cap for the front, I have only found them in the stainless type and only on 70-72 K20s. I have found the full center blue bowtie 3/4 ton painted & stainless caps on plenty of 2wds though, but I never seen a painted one with the stamped out center and the factory rolled edge for the front of a 4wd. Can anyone else add some info on this? Cb

Re: original hubcap question?
I can`t say for sure about the front K/20s,either.It seems I have seen them, but the memory...
I`d have to check my archives,I seem to recall a gold K/20 with white caps. I have a pair of n.o.s. whiteys.

Re: original hubcap question?
Classic Bowtie`s looks n.o.s. with shelf wear.See the low sheen? It would be like the bumpers/mirrors.If I was painting I`d prolly keep the sheen low, closer to a semi-gloss.I`ll did mine out. But,the pic will prolly turn out like CB`s.I have diibs on a pair of his brightys.I have some gathered, too. Not sure I have a perfect pair, though.
I check my pictures some and got to the one I was thinking about, they weren`t white.

Re: original hubcap question?
base model did not have hub caps, and I see no option for painted ones, only the bright ones.

Re: original hubcap question?
Here is a C 20 3/4 ton 4X4 with hubs on front axle. I believe they must have been an option from the dealer or they normally would not be installed.Note the 2 piece rims which were so common during these years. The rims were painted white , while the ring was painted gray.

Re: original hubcap question?
1973 is the year for the ochre bowties. On the 3/4 ton center section of the hubcap it is also concave while the 72 and older are convex.

Re: original hubcap question?
Stock wheels have always looked great on these vehicles. Unfortunately, the aftermarket corporations (wheel makers) and the media ( magazines ) have historically pushed the look of the custom to sell you something you dont need. Hence, the corporate media complex. The stock traditional wheel and hubcap is far outnumbered by the mag type wheel at any show. The culture has conditioned the vintage vehicle owner to "Be Cool or Be Cast Out".

I thought the 1/2 ton caps 72 and under (10") were concave also. I thought it was just the 72 and older 3/4 ton caps that were convex? Jeff

Re: original hubcap question?
I've never seen that at any show I've been to, and there is a place for a stock wheel'd whatever... but I think you'll be hard pressed to get 100 ppl on here to agree with you.
