rust removal from steel parts

I ran across an article on same in Ol' Scholl Hot Rod (magazine), then found more references on the web, they were pretty consistent in the description.

I was changing from a the small to the large radiator (both OEM sizes, on 64 C10) and had harvested some rusty crusty stock mounting brackets from a pal's back yard truck collection.

It worked very well. It cleans everywhere, to the bottom of pits and behind folds that you can scrub with a wire brush or even sand blast effectively. They came out looking like new cleanmetal,save for the few pits here and there.

Out of the electrolyte bath they come out sort of black and slimy. I washed them with soap and water right away, drive them in the oven at 150 degrees or so, let cool a bit and primered right away. Top coat next day, they look like new parts.
