Re: flowmaster?????

I have 2 chamber 3" Flowmasters on my truck and they are loud. 1 chambers IMO are asking for trouble from the police and neighbors. IMO go withe the 3 chambers.

Re: flowmaster?????

I have two chambers on mine, and they are a bit loud, not too bad, but not quiet either. The more chambers, the quieter the muffler.

Re: flowmaster?????

2 is fine, at least for me. I thinks that's the 40 series. It's a little loud, but just don't mash down on the gas when your going through the neighborhood.

Re: flowmaster?????

I dont think there is a better sounding muffler (flowmasters) on something with a lot of power. I dont care for the sound of them on a bone stock motor though.

I still like corvair style turbos. Thats whats on my stock 89...

Re: flowmaster?????

3 chambers are not to loud, they have a nice "sophisticated(SP)" sound to them. 2 chambers have a good "hot rod" sound to em. 1 chambers are geeks with mustangs and are good on drag cars/trucks. go with the 3, or 2 chambers if you can.

Re: flowmaster?????

3 Chambers will give you a nice metallic muscle car rumble but kinda quiet.
2 Chambers are louder then 3 but in my opinion not enough to make a statement. (a mustang is louder)
1 chambers will em barres all them Mustangs and f#k the neighbor's!
I also noticed that using a 3in over 2 1/2 makes a big difference. The larger 3inch sounds more deep and rounded.

Hey Bishop, thats a cool Clip, however are you aware that your air cleaner is way to small, That engine is not able to breath properly which can rob you some essential HP.

Re: flowmaster?????

As soon as I get back to Virginia it will be replaced. I've thought that for quite some time but was to busy to change it before I moved overseas.

Re: flowmaster?????

If the filter was taller it would be okay. Ive used 10" diameter filters for a long time with no problem, but I use at least a 3" tall filter. I think its an early 80's 267 V8 malibu filter...

Re: flowmaster?????

I am swapping out a set of 3" super 40s with some 3 chamber 50s tomorrow. The 40s are a little loud for me with the headers. I will be selling the Super 40s on here afterwards. They have about 100 miles on them.

I would stay away from the one chamber flows for street use.

Re: flowmaster?????

My 3" cherry bombs are about the same as 1-chamber flows & they're loud, but I love em

Wish I had a hotter engine, they'd really piss people off then ( I can set car alarms off now)

Re: flowmaster?????

I just installed my hooker headers, I have two Super 44's going to be installed this week with full mandrel bent stuff. I want the pipes to come out before the rear wheels but cant find any good tips to use. Ill let you know how the 44's sound on the 402 big block soon. I drop the truck off at the mandrel shop monday night.

Yours sound noticably different than mine. I had mine changed to 50s this morning and about 75% of the drone is gone and they are still louder than I expected. Must be a big block thing?

I have learned that headers make a very noticeable difference in sound and volume.

stock 402, headers, 3" pipe, 50 series, a little loud, nice hotrod sound.

stock 454, stock manifolds, 2.5" pipe, 50 series, very nice mellow sound.
