I was looking at my truck to see why I have a mist of oil around the head on the drivers side. I Went to check the oil and the dipstick and tube came right with me. I found that the dipstick tube is not seating correctly. For some reason the tube won't go in far enough for the ring on the dipstick to drop into it's seat. I thought the tube might have been to long so I cut it a bit but it still won't seat.

Any advice guys? I don't exactly want to pound on it with a hammer.

Oh, Its a 69 GMC 1500 with a recently rebuilt 350.

heres how i install dip stick tubes. i take a box end wrench just big enough to slip over the tube (3/8ths or 7/16ths i think ) then push tube in block as far as you can, then use a long punch and small hammer to go completely aroung the side of the wrench tapping it until the tube seats in the block. this way you dont damage the tube as the pressure spreads itsely around with all the small taps. if you need a new tube there still available new from chevy. i just installed one myself. mine broke off even with the top of the block.
