Without sealing it on all sides, the wood will grey pretty quick. If you keep it oiled it will grey, but will last. Depends on what you're going for. If its a work truck then oil it, if its a weekend cruiser then clearcoat it.

One thing you can do to kill any rot, is to scrub the wood with atni-freeze. THe green stuff will kill teh mold and rot, and then evaporate. It will not stain it either.
(old boater's trick) Just make sure you do it in the yard of the neighbor...you know, the one with those dogs that keep you up at all hrs of the night. ![]() ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. I sanded/stained my wood and then prepped it for clearcoat. I used automotive clear, 3 coats, and it has held up outstanding!! I wanted a bed that was show quality, and from the couple shows I've been to since getting this thing done, my bed has looked the best by far. It's been 7 or 8 months now with the wood cleared and it appears the same as the day after I shot it.

I can still remember Dad putting Linseed Oil on the wood in the bed of his '67 LWB 6 cyc 3 on the tree, Throttle on the dash C-10 Chevy. That was way back in 1969 or 70. I also remember him hating the brakes on it (non-power drums).

Dave, make sure you get boiled linseed oil. The raw will mildew if any moisture gets on it. Lyman.

I've also used Danish Oil...I think it has a better finish than Linseed Oil.
