Engine swap to Big Block VS Small Block

Hi,

I just wondering about going with a big block 454 instead of a 350. A guy I know is selling an engine that pushed a 64 chevelle to 11.88 in the quarter. Anyway, he returning the car to stock and selling the drive train and I'm thinking of buying the engine and putting it in the C10 when I done.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments, good or bad regarding this swap?

Just be sure to add up everything that will have to be changed. There is more than you think. I changed an 81 El Camino from a v6 to v8 when I was 17(20 years ago) and I am changing the 72 swb from sb to bb. I won't do it again. Just my .02cents.

Re: Engine swap to Big Block VS Small Block

If your truck is going to be a daily driver i would leave that 350 in it. Unless you are rich or are just going to use the truck in the weekends go for it. But me i regret swapping my 350 motor for a 454 big block in my 72 Suburban. Because it takes alot of money from my wallet . Since i put the 454 in it, i have used it every day and i have been putting $130 of gas in it a week. But preety soon im going to take that ( Good) 454 out of my suburban and put a 327 in it, for better gas milage.

Definitely!!!

Yes there are several conversion considerations, but IMO WELL worth the investment in the long run. Fun factor will even outweigh fuel factor (unless this is your 50+ mile daily diver.)

Just one 200 foot burnout with that 454 will infect you forever!

No going back for me.
