Re: Alternators
I got mine from checkers with a lifetime warranty. Those rebuilt ones need that!

Re: Alternators
Grab one off a 84-86 Camaro. V-belt and 100 amps. I had one on my truck. Upgraded it to 120 amps for $65.

Re: Alternators
Ditto. Say you want one for a 84 Camaro 305 High Output with A/C. With a core exchange I believe it's around $70 at Autozone for a lifetime warranty reman. You can probably give them your old stock alternator for a core and they wont notice the difference. Did that on my truck and it's been working good so far.

Re: Alternators
I run a powermaster 140amp in my truck. 80 amps idle. Bolt in and drive.

Re: Alternators
Never buy an alternator (or anything) from Autozone. They are nothing but POS's. I went through 1 on my truck and 2 on a 91 camry. They may have a lifetime warranty, but I gaurantee you'll put many on and fry something in the process. I've had nothing but back experiences with auotzone parts.

Re: Alternators
What brand was the one for your Toyota? The one for my truck was Duralast brand.

Re: Alternators
Both were duralast. From the experiences I've had and a few of my friends have had they will last for about 6 months to a year and short out. There is a little company near my hometown that rebuilds alternators and starters and they have a big sign on the counter that reads "will not rebuild duralast alternators". They also say they are not worth a dang.

Re: Alternators
Oh well, hopefully mine continues to work for awhile. How would they know it was a Duralast rebuild anyway? It's just a rebuilt Delco alternator, doesn't say Duralast anywhere on it.
