Re: My 1951 3100 build!!!!!!!
Ok ,never have told the story bout this truck yet!!!!!!My stepgrandad bought it new,he wore it out, lmao! My dad bought it when i was very young, was drivin it to work and a rod startin knockin in it,so he parked it!As i was growin up my dad always told me of his plans with the truck!Fast forward yrs later he still hasnt touched the truck, sat down is southern az for many many yrs.I have my son Kieth 4 yrs ago and my dad decides that truck needs to be his ,LMAO!Soo we go down and get it at the beginning of the summer!!!!In the trukcs years of sittin out in the desert a family of pack rats moved in.OMG those things are nasty!the truck was rust free till they moved in,they used the driver rear corner of the cab and floor board for a restroom!!!!!!This rusted these parts out!The passenger side is really nice, lol!!!!!!!!It took about 2 weeks to totally evict that family of rats, they got into everything!!!!!!!!!So i thought about a plan for the truck, looked all over for a stock 216 motor to no avail!!!!!!!I then thought a 283 would be cool in it!!!!So i searched everywhere for one,to no avail!!!!!LMAO!!!!!!So that evening i put on craigslist a fender that was in the bed of the truck i wasnt gonna use!Went back to check my ad and 3 above it was a free 283!Wooohoooo!!!!!!!!!Did a flyin fingers email, and the guy calls me back!!!!!!!The motor is less than 10 miles from me!!!WOOOHOOOOOO,so after the motor i go!!!!!The guy tells me,i put in the ad that it needs rebuilt but i drove that car everyday for a year and the motor ran great, but been in the corner of his garage cause the put a bigblock in the car to go drag racing!!!!!!The motor is complete carb to pan fant to flywheel with ps pump, starter alternator and all!!!!!!So i take it to my shop, clean it up and fire it on the stand, motor sounds great!!!!!!!!Gotta love craigslist!!!!!!!!So ive been steadily movin along on it!!!!!!!Im hopin in late november to drive it back to texas to my dads and surprise him!We shall see!LMAO!!!!!!!!The truck had an sm-420 4 speed in it,so the small block was a bolt in!!!!!I dont know what to expect out of the torque tube rearend!!!Gonna drive it a little and see how that goes!!!!!!Same with the straight axle front!!!

Sounds like a great deal, At least you are keeping it in the family. I have one I am going to start on later. I have to finish my 68 first.
It is a 1948 on an 83 s-10 frame that is bagged and 4-linked..fun fun.. get us some pictures of the build asap...

Re: My 1951 3100 build!!!!!!!
I blew the rearend out of my 50 with a 235. I would change the torque tube rear to something that will hold up to the 283.
