Overhaulin

I was down in Huntington Beach this Wednsday for a reveal on a friends car. I just wanted to tell you guys that I have seen all the Overhaulin shows, and I always figured, "Yea... one week... right! , I know it looks good on TV, but it probably is shoddy looking in person."
Boy, was I WRONG! His car was a wreck a week ago, and now it is an INCREdible 10! All I can say is, it is a Miracle.
By the way, you guys better watch this season (Season #5), they have done a Killler 71 shortbed (I got to see it up close) And no... Im not posting ANY pics... I dont want to steal any thunder.
Go Foose, Tom

My mom sent an application in for my truck (cool mom, huh?) but they sent a letter back saying they only do vehicles in a certain area of cali

Re: Overhaulin

I enjoy that show although the skits are getting a little lame - but not lame enough to stop me from watching it to see what they do to the different vehicles. Eager to see the 71!

Re: Overhaulin

Cool, Nova's are cool rides. I've seen more and more of 'em popping up around here as "homebuilt" drivers.

Tom,
Nova's are real cool cars. I can't wait to see the show. How did they work out the price for the car or work? I mean, what was he charged for the parts, labor, or ????

You are responsible for taxes. It says right in the overhaulin' application.

Re: Overhaulin

I have seen a couple Overhaluin cars and they are extremely nice for a car done in 7 days. I am amazed at their ability to coordinate the project in such a short number of days. Most don't stop and think about it, but if you put 15 guys on a car, 18 hours a day, for 6 days, that is 1620 hours or about 10 months of work done in one week.

Re: Overhaulin

My son set me up once. (Never happened though) The forms we got stated we were responsible for all taxes. But, a note mentioned that the production company would cover those if we signed a contract allowing them the rights to show the vehicle - at their discretion - where and when they wished.

Re: Overhaulin

Overhaulin' or Pimp My Ride....either one would be okay for me. I just can't get anyone to nominate me. Overhaulin ain't comin' to Arkansas. I can't see Xhibit coming to us, either. I mean, when he (Xhibit) drives away and says it off to West Coast, I wondered (early in the series) how far he had to drive. From the looks of the stuff they redo, it better not be very far.

Re: Overhaulin

My wife sent in an application to Overhaulin' for my truck during one of the first few seasons. She said they sent out a more detailed application that took her over an hour to fill out. Never heard anything back from them so I guess my ride is safe.

Darn.

Re: Overhaulin

After the 1st season, my wife looked into getting my truck on the show. She filled out the info, took the pictures, and sent them a video of me. They did reply to her, and stated that I was on the "waiting" list or something to that effect. While watching the 2nd season, they did our style of truck, and she pretty much figured that I wouldn't get on the show, so she told me about it. Oh Well, maybe I am too ugly to be on TV, or maybe they just have a really long waiting list.

Re: Overhaulin

The taxes as far as I know, at least thats what I was told. But someone else had posted that if ya agree to let them show the vehicle at their descreation they will pick up the bill.................but ya figure if your truck/car ends up on there you have to report it to the insurance company as having been modified otherwise they wont cover it in the event of accident so even if ya dont have to pay taxes on it ya better figure on a higher insurance premium...........

But as I said..................no matter how deserving your are the chances of a common man (like the members of this board) getting on Overhaulin are slim to none.

Dont mind me Im just a cynical fart at times, just my .02 cents

[QUOTE=ChevyC102007;2358935]The taxes as far as I know,

Yes, you will have to pay the taxes... doesnt matter who you are, (no matter what politicians say, they could care less about you or me) Even a widow with10 kids has to pay up or the IRS will toss you out of your home and not even snort.

NOT so! The young person I speak of is a guy just like you or me. Im not going to give you the particulars. Suffice it to say, ... when you have seen this episode, I think you will feel good about it.
I think this episode will air next Feb or March; as it is the last car of this new season.

As far as having to be on a waiting list.... If you saw these cars up close, youd happily wait till Hell froze over.

Those stupid skits have stopped me from watching it. I get so ticked off at the crap I have no interest in that I just can't watch it.

Re: Overhaulin

I guess the tax rate is the same as the gift tax rate. I've heard the taxes are 25 percent of the stated value of the work that has been done. Seems I remember reading that the 29 phaeton (actually a 2-dr sedan with the roof removed, had a value of $100,000 after the work was done. You may remember the one that didn't get new wheels. It had a checkerboard firewall and they built a Y-block Ford engine for it (312, I believe). By the time you figure Foose's artwork, and the legions of craftsmen who do the actual work, plus the perphirals that go along with the whole event. I figure a hundred grand is on the light side and the value would go up even more. Yeah, taxes would suck, but looking at the finished product and getting it done for one-quarter of the cost of the full price for parts and labor....it's a bargain.

I certainly get your angst... in case you are interested though, they have stopped that as of the end of last season. As of this season, they are telling you they are doing your car. They come and get it, and the surprise for the owner is in the reveal of the car.
As far as the taxes, blame our blood sucking government.
