Borg-Warner T10 4 speed, need help

Hallo
Need some help!! I have a -71 C-10 step-side with, what I guess is, a SM 465(allthough the owners manual calls it CH465). Now I have found a Borg-Warner T10 4 speed tranny for sale, and I wonder if anyone can tell me, from the picture, if this will fit in my truck? Is there anything special I should check, before I buy it? This is probably a lot to ask, but will be very thankful for any help.
Thank You!

that is a good trans to use I have had several of them , that bell housing will not fit a chevy engine look at the starter hump (WRONG SIDE) make sure he has the correct rear slip yoke they are the bigger style like a turbo 400 use's ,
with the correct bell housing and a correct slip yoke that T-10 will fit and work perfect

How much is he asking? The front case with the inspection plate has it been painted alum. A magnet should tell you if it is cast. The gears (good gears not junk from abused tranny's) are pretty hard to find and I know these transmissions sell for big bucks. If it were mine I would sell it to a Vette guy who has lot's of money and buy the tranny of your dreams. But that is just my take on it.

Re: Borg-Warner T10 4 speed, need help

I was looking at getting a T-10 for my truck, talked to a guy that has a few transmissions....................he tried to tell me that a T-10 wouldnt stand up to the torque of my 71's engine. Last I looked wasnt these transmissions put behind L78 and L88 427 Corvette motors or were those M-22's I couldnt remember but I know dang well the T-10 was in a vette

Re: Borg-Warner T10 4 speed, need help

That apears to be the early T-10 and if it is, they are not a very strong unit. Check the out put shaft, if it uses a 350 yoke, it is early. If it uses the 400 yoke, it is the super T-10 and a pretty good trans. Restored T-10's are selling for $1,000 to $1,500 depending on application. Parts are expensive and not all are still available. The bell housing in the pic looks to be Olds or pontiac. Check the casting #'s, date code and application code. It could be worth quite a bit to the right person.

Lightbulb Re: Borg-Warner T10 4 speed, need help

Last T/10 that I sold (NOT REBUILT) was for $1500.00 and the guy also to top up things put in a Saginaw 3spd. rebuilt with bills to prove it. Sold the sag. for $300.00. So a total of $1800.00 dollars is what I got.

Oh, did I mention this was in 1996.

PS: Today a rebuilt T/10 would fetch $5000.00.

Re: Borg-Warner T10 4 speed, need help

Hallo
Thanks for great help. I'v been away for the weekend, so I was very excited to see the reply's when I turned on the computer today.
He's asking $1,000 (remember that this is in Norway, and manual transmissions like this are hard to find), so I'm going to drive down there next weekend to check it out.
Another question: will the bell housing from my old transmission (SM 465) fit this T10? If not, I guess this is almost impossible to find here.
Thanks again

They were Muncies. T/10's stopped being used during late 1963 production.
