Poll: Steel or Wood Bed
What do you guys like better and why? I'm thinking about wood.

A nice wood bed with stainless stips is the sweetest looking.but for a daily driver where you haul trannys,motors,rearends.i think id go steel.

Wood all the way.
It is the last one with the availability, (in a fleet bed) and it shows the class these rigs had/have. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Trying to clean up the left over damage from the Dope-Smokin-Old-Man I've been dubbed the Longhorn Freak/Fanatic/Expert, I just hope I can live up to it. FINALLY got the HORNIAC...a '70 one ton Longhorn with a Pontiac 350/350 and lots of 'personality'. Check out The Longhorn Webite. steel. it would kill me to watch a nice wood bed rott out. just get a nice linex or rhbino liner and dont ever worry about it.

Wood, all the way. A nice wood bed is very classy. Just take care of it.

My first Longhorn had the original wood bed. If yu take care of it, it'll last.
The original owner parked it on the street. He had it from April '70 untill some time in '95. The wood was all original. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. wood would be sweet to havem but they rot too easily, need to have in drier climate and keep covered or,,,,

I'd take wood any day. It holds up much better. I don't know how many rusted out/dented pickup beds I've seen over the years.

Im going steel in my longhorn. 1 reason was cost,& the other is to tighten up the @ss end,so that 383 can get some "bite". The cross sills are 2x3x 1/8 wall tubing,& are tied together with 2x2x1/8,& welded tight. the first 1 ft in on the floor is 12guage smooth sheet,& the center 4x8 1/2ft will be done with 14 guage tread plate. With a Rhino coating,it should last a long time........69Longhorn.

My '68 ('67) project (see below) wil have a aluminum floor, held in with dzus fasteners, Was aluminum and option? or did I misread the question? hehehe

I had a wood bed on my 67 and went to a steel one. The rear of the truck seems tighter now. I think the lack of cross suport of the wood type allowed to much frame flex for good handling.. Just my opinion. But a Refinished woody looks real cool

Wood for appearance, but steel for actually doing anything. No matter what I do to my truck, I've got one rule above all...it's still a TRUCK!!!! Which means its future duties will likely involve running parts for other projects I get along the way, heh...
