How tall are tall valve covers?

My current valve covers are 3" tall. Are they tall or short valve covers? How tall are the tall ones. I have about 1/2" clearance at the rear of the valve covers to the firewall. I want to run tall covers but I'm not sure if they will hit the firewall.

Short. The tall are over 4 inches, don;t have the exact height, but they take a 5 1/4 t-handle lock down.

Re: How tall are tall valve covers?

Thanks for the quick reply. I was about to order some valve covers from Summit. I'll get the shorts.

If you like them, use a #2 BFH and carefully resize the firewall to your specifications.

Re: How tall are tall valve covers?

No, I just think the Edelbrock ones I have are ugly and since I can't find painted ones I got some cheap chrome ones. My steel core valve cover gasket cost more than the valve covers. I just don't want them to leak. Chevys have a stupid design on the valve covers and people try all kinds of things to keep them sealed. I hope the steel core rubber gaskets work.
