Carb Spacer? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Since i will be replacing the base gasket on my carb, i was thinking about getting a 1" , 4-hole spacer for it. Would the spacer give me any more power, mpg, or is it just a waste of money? Which is better, the plastic or allumium spacer? My engine specs are in my signature....

my opinion more oppurtunity for leaks,but keep fuel from boiling.id go plastic.i have several of those Mr Gaskets ones in a crate,i wont use one.but some say they are beneficial.

They help to build torque just like a high rise intake,same concept my race car buddy swares by them on a dirt track. I would go with an aluminum spacer as oposed to plastic simply because of how well alum. disapates heat.

I installed a 2 inch, 4 hole, plastic spacer mainly to insulate the carb and prevent the fuel from boiling, but as an added bonus, I also got a noticeable increase in torque on the bottom end.

It is a crap shoot really.
Car Craft has done a couple shoot outs on them, and they found that some are worth quite a bit, while others don't do squat. The funny thing is, the ones that don't do squat on one motor, will work awsome on another motor.
I had one at one time on an internally stock motor, and it did in fact make more torque, and helped my MPG.
