New project
Well I picked up a '56 3/4ton NAPCO last week. Plan is to restore it to original but without the snow plow.

Re: New project
From what I can gather, this truck was an old county plow truck here in the U.P. There is a massive v-plow that came with it and it's about 3 feet or so tall and sweeps back by the front wheels. The NAPCO setup is an older setup so it has a driver's side drop front differential instead of the passenger side. I'm guessing that the county had a 55 1st series truck or older NAPCO and bought this one new and swapped in the drivetrain. The original 235 was also pulled out and another 235 dropped in, I have the original engine though. This truck sat for over 10 years but the brakes still work and it turns over with the starter. The shifters all work and the steering feels tight still. It's going to need a lot of work, the body is pretty dented but not that rusty. I'm not sure whats worse though, rust or dents. Hopefully I can get it fired up this week and see how it runs.

Re: New project
Nothing like a NAPCO for your ride. Looks complete as well and thats half the battle with one of those trucks.

Re: New project
Yeah, it is a complete truck but I haven't dug into it yet to see what's gotten worn out over the years.
I'm in Michigan's U.P. right now for school and thats where the truck is too. It's the rainy season up here. Rains every other or every day in the fall until it start s to snow. I can't wait to get it running and drivable to move it around the yard on it's own.

Re: New project
well it runs now. I filed the points and set the gap then poured some gas in the carb and it lit right off. Doesn't smoke and has decent oil pressure. All the four wheel drive works and it drives good. Brakes need a little help. It's got 4.57 gears in it, better than the 5.13's I was dreading. Time for an oil change and grease job.

Re: New project
I got lucky and every grease fitting took grease. Oil pressure got better after the oil change, mostly because the old oil was contaminated. Right now I haven't done much other than research on the 4wd parts. School has taken all my time away, hopefully I can haul a load of scrap this weekend with it.
