Finishing out a tailgate help...

What are you all using to fill in the small dents on your tailgates?

I am going to try to fix my GMC tailgate and noticed it has several small dings on the inside that I would like to smooth out. I feel Bondo may be be too soft for this.

I used a filler that my brother in law gave me once that was absolutely awesome. It was used on helicopters and was military type stuff. It dried as hard as metal and worked great on a tailgate I fixed some years ago.

The activator (catalyst?) dried up on me and I never knew what it was. It just had a military number on it.

I am a supply sergeant in the US Army. If you get me the numbers off of the can, I may be able to at least get you a manufacturer or some other info. Any number off of the can will help, but a number in the following format would be best: xxxx-xx-xxx-xxxx.

If you can't find the stuff you had, I'd recommend Evercoat's Rage Gold body filler. It is about $40/gal, but it is so much better than regular filler. It is the easiest to work filler I've ever used, and air bubbles are about 95% non-existant.

Hey thanks for suggestions guys...

Travis, sorry, but I threw the stuff away years ago. It was a half of a can and when the catalys dried up I dumped it.

I will look into the epoxy/JB Weld first since they're mostly small dings and see what happens (dont know why I didn't think of this).

Did a quick search on the Evercoat body filler. Looks interesting. I may have to try some. However, if I'm lucky, I may come across a good used one. I will be going up to Oklahoma soon to visit my daughter. I heard there were a few trucks to look at over there.

Re: Finishing out a tailgate help...

Years ago when I use to do a lot of boating and repairs I got a product from a place that had boat supplies and it dried hard as rock, it wass called Marine-Tex.

I am not sure if it is still made, but a boat place would be a place to look.

Why Not Use Kitty Hair.resin With Fibreglass Already In It? Works Like Bondo But Much Tougher.

Re: Finishing out a tailgate help...

use a product called duraglass.... imo i would try to pull out the dents as much as you can before any filler work first...., Ever coat products are great , and if used right bondo is a great filler
