dome and cargo light problems

i can't seem to get my dome and cargo lights to work. i have power bulb is good i have a ground with light switch or door switches but no ground at light. when i add a dround at light fixture with a test jumper it blows the fuse any ideas as to what might be the problem

Check the wires along the drivers door sill (under sill plate for a short). I had a similar problem and found out a screw had nicked a wire and allowed moisture to corrode the wire for the light.

It would seem to me that if you blow a fuse by grounding the light fixture,then the fixture itself has a short circuit.Take it out and fix or replace it.

got them fixed.although wires tested good for continuity the ground was was nearly broke and would not complete the circut as for an aditional ground blowing the fuse, in the series of plugs from the fues panel for the door switches,cargo light and the one to the dome light, the one to the dome lighthad the white and orange wires reversed in the plug so when i added the ground at the dome light it created a direct short{all these harnesses came from different trucks}
