paint restoring...
so my 69 truck that i have been restoring has all original metal and paint and i was looking at the paint today and if i rub it real good its pretty darn shinny. well the hood has alot of surface rust but it looks like there is paint underneath it..... is there anything i can do to try to bring this paint back, to make it look a little more appealing while i make enough cash to repaint it?

Re: paint restoring...
I went to NAPA and got a couple of bottles of Color Back, it worked wonders on my paint, I never finished up with wax but boy did it remove the oxidation and years of build up on the paint. And it was fairly easy to use.
Here is a pic of the bottle

Re: paint restoring...
You got alot of paint oxidation (looked at your biuld thread). I dont think you will be able to do anything with the rust. The rest of it you can get some cheap compound from turtle wax that will do fine for you. Then follow up with some wax.

Re: paint restoring...
Get a good buffer. Not the Big Lots 19.00 buffer, but a good one.
Wash the truck Buff with rubbing compound Wash the truck Buff with polishing compound Wash the truck Buff with Meguirs Paint Cleaner Wash the truck Buff with Meguirs Polish Wash the truck Hand Wax with Meguirs Wax That is as good as it is going to get. Your arms are going to be pretty tired, too! |

Re: paint restoring...
I agree with what others have said....a good deep wash and maybe a clay bar. in stages... plus a good buff and polish will do wonders for our paint....it lacquer it can a take a beating, and still shine up most of the time
