72 rear end mounts and springs

I've read more than once here that a '72 rear end will bolt directly into my 66 with coil springs.
Did the 72s come with leaf springs also, because the 72 rear end I'm looking at is out of the truck and doesn't appear to mount exactly the same as mine - ?

I've no clue but I'm interested in the answer. Why are you wanting to switch?

GMC had leaf springs, Chevy had trailing arms with coil springs. The 67-72 rearend is also a tad bit wider than the 66 rearend.

I put a 72 rearend in mine it will bolt right in to give you 5 lug, but it is 3/4 inch longer on each side only problem I had was emergency brake cable was a bit short.

I didn't have any problems. It bolted right in. I used the orignal parking brake cables from the 65. They do bolt right in uless like said above the GMC's came with leaf springs.

Re: 72 rear end mounts and springs

Thanks, guys.
I'm doing the swap for 5-lug; the 72 posi I found has different perches (1 center hole over axle housing, instead of the 2 front and back that my 66 rearend has for the giant U-bolts over the housing, and the 72 perches are mounted at right angles to the axle housing rather than the inward angle the 66 perches have to mount trailing arms - must have been leaf spring rear; looks like some cutting and welding required).

gmc were stock leaf but could be ordered with trailing arms set up.and chevy was stock trailing arm but could be ordered with leafs.if the rear has leaf spring perches, then you'd know for sure.
