Steak Pockets!
I decided to totally remove the steak pockets from my 71 Fleetside, why just shave when you can remove and shave both sides.
Question is will I need to support that area more then just the shave patches? Will my truck be waving all the way down the road.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/i...milies/hmm.png I've included the picts, prebondo, but fully welded. |

Re: Steak Pockets!
I have a buddy that smoothed the inside of a box to hide the pockets by fabricating a 1 piece inner pannel and the pockets remained behind the panel and then shaved and filled the pockets. The best of both worlds.
esll.

Re: Steak Pockets!
I got my steak in my pocket - ready to go. Just kidding man. Sorry - I can't tell you for sure what will happen to your bed. But I can tell you that it looks like you are doing a nice job, and it will definitely be one of those little things that makes a huge difference. Maybe someone could actually help? DLB |

Re: Steak Pockets!
Is anyone going to answer the original posters question, or are you guys going to continue talking about meat?
I get the comedy, but after a dozen off-topic posts, I can imagine the original poster is getting pretty frustrated at you guys making fun of his word choice.

Re: Steak Pockets!
If it were me I would at least brace where the center pocket was. It would probably be OK until someone leans on it but why take that chance. Maybe use some thin Gage angle and tack it to the under side. Square tubing might work as well. Looks good though!

Re: Steak Pockets!
in all seriousness...Your pics are a little dark and its hard to see whats going on. I would say the corner's will be supported but the center may want to sag due to it only being supported on the one side. I agree with the poster that said bacing may be needed.

Re: Steak Pockets!
At the very worst could you not make some "custom" support gussets to stiffen where the original stake pocket metal came down?
You could make it out of plate and make it look however you wanted - even laser cut Bowtie's into them. DLB |

Re: Steak Pockets!
Perhaps this will help! Not very good pic's but the panel looks to be lying on it's side.
