My new find!

So I picked up a package deal over the weekend in western MA. Two 1972 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks, one GMC, one Chevy. You might have seen them on ebay, but the winning bidder fell through so I got both for $500.
The chevy is restorable, but the GMC was unbelievable. I don't think I have ever seen a truck in worse shape...
Half of it fell off when we put in the trailer.
Anyway, holding onto the chevy, but off the GMC I got a pair of factory buckets, the Dana 60 locking rearend, front Dana 44, rear sliding window, and a nice set of door panels. Then salvaged the rest. If I had more time I would have liked to take the drivetrain out, but I had to be back in VA and I had very little storage space in MA.

Re: My new find!

yeah, and the pics don't even do it justice. I have never seen a truck with holes the size of a basketball on top of the hood. It must have been a great truck back in the day though. I was hoping the grille was in better shape

I once bought a 75 GMC for the engine and I had to use my shoe laces to tie the door skin on on my way home.

Re: My new find!

WOW... do it a favor and cut the rest of the body off with that oxy-acetylene rig and try to salvage the frame if that wasnt just as bad... at least you rescued the chevy before it ended up looking similar

Re: My new find!

unfortunately the frame was just as bad... it was really impressive how bad the whole thing was.
The owner said he put a huge mixture of sand and salt in the bed one winter for weight while plowing and it just ate away the whole truck. I have no idea what he was thinking...

Re: My new find!

Yes, forgot to add that, took all the glass out before I salvaged it. The rear slider was a good find, as was the perfect windshield.

Re: My new find!

Rust?.........What rust? I don't see any rust.

But I see you did manage to find the sister to the bed on my truck. (See my post in the "longbed sides" thread).
