One ton wheels,what's the deal
Looking for a one ton flat bed to use round "the farm", least that's what I am telling the wife.... Noticed a difference in front wheels. Most all I've seen are same as 3/4 ton wheels.Must have been a heavy-duty one ton front axle option available. Any ideas or advice appreciated, THANKS!!!

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
AFAIK, the wheels for single-rear-wheel one-ton trucks are the same as for 3/4 tons. Dual-rear-wheel one-tons use a completely different wheel design. Is that what you are asking about?

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
Stocker, thanks for reply.Forgot bout 1 ton singles, don't know much bout one tons but learning. Junk yard 1 tons i've seen have huge disc brakes with about 6 inch long hub or spacer cast into them to use a more negative backspace wheel. [I think thats what its called, negative backspace] The wheel center is flush with the wheel outer rim. Must be a difference in track width as well. And probally a different spindel too.

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
red, the ones you make reference to with the huge spacer, that is the correct type of front wheel set up. The wheel can be used in the rear, so there's only one spare tocarry.
Any other kind of front wheel, and something has been chainged... usually the dauls would be added to a single rear wheel truck. |

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
Hey KONK, yeah that is the front end setup I am talking about, thanks for the pic. Looked at a 77 Chevy C-30 flat bed today.VIN says it is a 1 ton but it had the traditional 8 lug,3/4 ton style 16 inch wheels on the front. Owner says he didnt change anything. He wanted $1200.00, but it was real tired,so I passed.Ok thanks!!!

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
Hey OLDEN DAYS,your right. Seems I am beating this wheel thing into the ground too. I am here in the "bread basket of the world" near Fresno . You know, come to think of it, maybe thats why I can't seem to find a nicer C-30 flatbed to buy. All the farmers are still using them... Thanks

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
Did the 77 C30 have duall rear wheels or single? I have seen quite a few truck over the years thatwere 3/4 ton or1 ton SRW where someone added dual rear wheels. IMO, this looks "ghett" and makes you have to carry two spares.

Re: One ton wheels, what's the deal
There are,and have always been, single rear wheel 1 tons and the optional, yet more common, dual rear wheel 1 tons.Which ever way they left the factory, they would have matching front wheels. The duals requiring the added spacers to compensate to the offset of a wheel mounted inward.
There are trucks where owners have added a dual rear or adapted the rear to dual from single. There are companies that sell conversions, too. You can do all this to any 8-lug,even a 3/4t.
