Shouse
What I mean by "Shouse" is a shop that has a house or living quarters in it or attached to it. I always thought this would be a cool idea being that close to the shop and being able to live in it. I started thinking about it today, and Thought it would be cool to have a basement in the living part. I Just wanted to know if anyone had pics of it. Go ahead and post pics of the shop too. Thanks

Re: Shouse
No pics but a buddy built a wood shop that was larger than his house, complete with a full bathroom and shower. Even had a sleeper sofa in the office in case he was too tired to walk to 100 ft to the office.
But to encourage the wife to stay out, he did not install a toilet, only a wall hanging urinal! Guess he was willing to walk that 100 ft if he really needed to...

Re: Shouse
This is something I am seriously considering doing in the future. Buy a nice lot and start from scratch. Basically make it look like a house with an attached 2 door garage but have the entire main level be the shop....basically like a 5 car garage or so, and then build an upper level to live in. I think it would be a cool idea and the ultimate man's house. Not to mention, I think it could be done for a fairly reasonable price.....essentially just a really big garage, something that I would be capable of building with the assistance of friends and family in a short period of time.

Re: Shouse
my shop has a little apartment in it. its rented to a friend at the moment. the apartment not the shop!!!!! lol the shop is big enough to fit 4 to 6 cars in no problem. the apartment has a closet, bathroom with shower, a little kitchen. pretty nifty if i do say so myself. were getting a damn good deal on the place. its a 3 bedroom 2 bath 3200sq and a pool on i think 5 acres . its got the shop with the apartment and a covered carport as big as the shop. and the house has a 2 car garage. paying $1100 a month and they offered to sell. you know its weird, i used to go to the river or another pool to swim all the time but now that we have a pool i never swim!!! lol ill take some pics of the shop and apartment and post um later.

Re: Shouse
Don't worry, the wife won't let you make it too livable. She would then know if you got sent to the dog house, you would skip out to the shop and not suffer.
With that said, a friend has one. He has a small office, bath and bedroom (all AC'd) on the side of his 40x70 shop. Very livable!

Re: Shouse
The formula for homes works something like this.
A woman wants,3+ Bdrms,2+ baths, large kitchen with dining area and formal dining room.At least 2 Living areas w/fireplace,white carpet, lots of cabinets and walkin closets.Professionally done landscaping, side or rear entry garage with space for her Hummer and another car,and privacy fencing so she can sunbathe in the backyard. A man wants, a gigantic shop with room for expansion, plenty of tools and some kind of dwelling with a comfortable couch/recliner and some kind of working toilet.
