Question Valve cover gaskets

I am going to be replacing the valve covers on my truck and I was wondering what would be the best valve cover gaskets to use. Do you need to buy the ones that cost $35-50? I was thinking about using the Mr Gasket Ultra Seal ones, are those any good? I am going to be using cast aluminum valve covers with studs instead of bolts.

I use Fell-Pro, almost exclusivly. No problems as of yet.
The rubber ones are ok, but I saw no reason when used them to buy them again.

I'm wonderin' too. I've got to replace almost new ones on the 350 in my Chevelle cuz they're leakin' already. Sure would like some that I don't have to worry about for a while.

i use the Felpro cork(or whatever comes in a overhaul set),just tighten evenly and dont over tighten.Sometimes i buy rubber-dont really matter to me.but when it comes to more critical i prefer good stuff no .099 pan gaskets,or real main seals,if its a pain in the ass to rplace i buy the better stuff.i wont use cheapy gasket sets off brands,i always stick to FelPro.

Are those the $34.99 ones with the metal inserts, or the regular Fel Pro ones?

I use whatever NAPA has over the counter for sb Chevy (cork). I clean the head with some scotch brite and some brake cleaner, and then I tack the gasket to the cover (but not to the head). Then I just tighten evenly with some hold-downs.

I highly recommend the metal insert cork gaskets, they seal great and you dont have to worry about them sliding on chrome or aluminum valve covers (which is a common problem). They can also be reused very easily.

I use the Fel-Pro thick cork gaskets and use gasket adhesive to secure them to my aluminum covers (not to the head surface). My motor is leak-free!

Thumbs up

I ALWAYS USE FELPRO RUBBER GASKETS (ABOUT $11)& GLUE THEM TO THE VALVE COVERS WITH 3M WEATHERSTRIP ADHESIVE. THIS IS THE BEST SEAL I'VE COME UP WITH.TRY IT & I BET YOU DON'T USE ANYTHING ELSE --- EVER --

i used the mr.gasket ultra-seals on mine.i've pulled the v.c.'s off different times and never had to worry 'bout it. has a high temp. plastic inner core surrounded by neoprene outer layer. can reuse over and over.nice thing also is that they never lose shape or thickness no matter how many times you take 'em off.
