head Id

I have my valve covers off and want to Id my heads. where are the casting numbers and is there a site where I can ID the heads with the numbers

The are going to be between the rocker studs. You can't really miss them. Should be a 6 or 7 digit number like 3927186 or 333882. There will also be a letter/number code that is the casting date of the head. The first digit will be a letter representing the month, the second will be a 2-digit number representing the day, and the third will be the single digit number represent the year. For example, a head with the casting number 3973487 and a date code of E 24 2 will be casted on May 24, 1972.

468642.....76-up...350/400

If they aren't cracked I'd keep them. They aren't anything special, but def not junk. They would have hardened valve seats compatible with unleaded fuel unlike older heads.

The difference in the 468642 between the 400 and 350 is the 400 has steam holes drilled in the heads its a small 1/8 hole 2 in between each cylinder.
