finally figured out wtf Im gonna do...

ok, heres why first off...

last night was my b-day, we did a highway run on the way to supper (me and my car club I lead). wound up putting too much on my old truck.

cracked one of my ball joints (prolly from a curve taken in excess of 100mph).

fried a few piston rings (when we stopped at the parking garage I was 3qts low on oil).

so come tax season, Im going to obtain a secondary vehicle to beat around in, and take the truck all the way down like I should.

its still driveable...just hurts me to drive her like she is :/

Re: finally figured out wtf Im gonna do...

Sounds like you just graduated from the Dale Earnhardt School Of Driving! LOL That sucks that parts started breaking like that. I don't know if I'd drive it like that or not right now. Might end up making things worse. If you have alternate transportation I'd use it and park the truck for now.

In my case, i have an '03 Silverado Z71 extended cab to go to if mine takes a dump on me like that, which could happen at any time since my clutch is on it's last legs. Good luck and start posting pictures up as you do the tear down and rebuild. Sounds like if you started the teardown now you'd be ahead of the game and ready to buy your new parts and do the rebuild come tax time and be cruising again next summer! ...Joe

Good thing the ball joint didn't actually let go. I would park it for now. Or at least replace that ball joint.

Re: finally figured out wtf Im gonna do...

Exactly why I decided to strip down my '73. It went down the road fine, but the engine, suspension were so outdated that things were bound to start coming apart on me. Upon tearing it down, I came across a dozen or so parts that were headaches waiting to happen.

Sounds like your the leader of the pack! Be careful that you don't kill someone while your out with the gang having all this fun. 3 quarts of oil low, invisable leak or no maintenence??? If I sound less then impressed I am.

Re: finally figured out wtf Im gonna do...

here be me update to all this...found a block locally, 350, gonna pick it up for $100 bux...then take and have it bored and decked for my 383 project.

got the clutch lined up as a stage 3 racing clutch for 400 bux.

buddy of mine said I could have his T56 if I take it to get rebuilt.

going to order a custom "Denny's Nitro Drveshaft" for it, so I can get rid of the carrier bearing.

so needless to say I have the ball pretty well rolling.

Park that truck for now until you fix it solder! It's a hazzard to drive like it is, you could hurt yourself or somebody else if that balljoint lets go.

Re: finally figured out wtf Im gonna do...

Krue, we didnt go the back route into downtown, there are 4 different ways that I found via highway, and one from rivers all the way through lol. the curve Im sure I cracked the ball joint on, is the same one that all the motorcycle accidents happen on.

As for my truck (oh how I love her) she is sitting silently in the parking lot, Ive been car-pooling the past few days...cant and dont want to risk it till next payday.

then I can order the new BJ's off of ebay for 40 bux...both sets of uppers and lowers.

last night after I left the squadron, I found my leak with a snake light I checked out from CTK, was my dipstick tube, so I cleaned it off and applied some black RTV, the oil resistant kind...

solved the oil leak till I get that full chrome pan from rat dog customs me thinx

But yea all, dont fret, Im bein safe and not drivin her
