Fuel Pump Question

I have a SBC out of a 91 burb, which obviously had a electric fuel pump in the tank. Well I'm putting it in my blazer and am going to use the fuel pump on the block. It's has a plate over it which I took off, but the new pump I got doesn't match up the bolt holes. What am I missing??? I know this is a stupid question but I still need to know

yup, looks like the block off plate, except it has a hole for the pump arm to pass through.

Example

Mr Gasket p/n 1514 $6.95

Re: Fuel Pump Question

There is a rod in there, it was all gummed up and it was a pain to get out. I hope there is or I'm screwed.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

No, I could tap it back and forth from the cam to the plate.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

if that rod keeps falling down while yr trying to put the fuel pump on, take some sticky grease and coat the rod good and push it all the way up, it wil stay there long enuff to get yr pump on and start yr bolts.good luck

it depends when the motor was produced. early on they just installed the block off plate and called it done. In the later models they stopped machining the hole.

I pulled a fresh motor from a 89 blazer (TBI, Centerbolt heads) to swap into my camaro, and all i had to do was remove the block off plate, and install the mechanical fuel pump. It worked great.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I imagine GM had quite a few blocks with the holes already machined in them to use up once they went with tank mounted pumps. I've heard engines as late as 93 could still have had the holes in them. No problem if one doesn't as you can always plumb in an inline electric one if need be.
