Has anyone moved their pedals for more room? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I did alot of driving in Low Buck this last week (300 mile trips for work) and found that I am getting older or just warn out but my knee's start to ache and I need to move my pedals forward a few inches. I hope toget about 3" out of the pedals and 3" by getting a new bench seat or have mine re worked to thin out the back. I have room in th eengine bay to cut the pedal box and relocate parts of it forward. Then I would need to modify the brake pedal to set it back 3" along with bending the gas pedal some as well. Has anyone done anything like this or other mods for more leg room short of streaching the cab or getting a different vehical?

Kevin, moving the pedals is too easy for you, I think you should do this instead:

I am looking for easy because I don't have the time for more than that right now! Also I have too many projects lined up to do it later. Low Buck drives and rides so nice now that it has the LT1 and 700R4 in it that I done what to put it down for any length of time or it might get shoved to the back burner

I'm in the process of assembling the inside of my truck. I've been working with the pedal mounts for a few hours now and I can't think how you would move them without redesigning everything.

If you have relocated the fuel tank, you can trim the back wall where the seat hits it, so the seat can go back further. (remounting the seat is required) You'd have to do something about the sharp edge left there, but that should be fairly easy to come up with something on that though.

I mounted my seat up a little higher in the front, so, it sits down lower in the rear, which lets my legs come to rest higher in the front of the seat... it helped a good bit. Not perfect, but more comfortable to drive. I don't feel like I'm constantly holding my leg up in the air anymore, but I could still use more leg room.

Just be aware that moving the seat back put your head closer to the back glass

Maybe you could retro-fit the electric adjustable pedals from the later trucks (some Fords had them).

Yes but this still would need mods to the floor at the base of the fire wall to give the pedals somewere to go.

I checked my truck and with the stock seat it is already touching the window rubber right now so I can not see how this would help with my set up. I guess if my seat tilted then I could slide it back some but with mine not being a flip forward style I am stuck. My seat does have alot of padding in the back ( 6" thick) that can be redone with better foam to thin things out a bit.

my seat back is also fairly thick, probably 4.5-5". I've often thought if I had one of the thinner ones I'd gain some legroom.

I Adjusted Rod That Goes To Brake Booster And Got Mine About 2 Inches Closer To Floor ,now I Don't Have To Pull Knee Into Chest To Hit Brake Pedal.......mine Does Have Disc Conv. Kit On It So It May Be Different.

I should qualify that trimming the lip around the fuel tank will only be useful under 2 conditions 1) the fuel tank is removed from the inside of the cab, and 2) the thick backed stock seat is replaced with a seat that has a thinner back and is positioned where it will fit under the rear window. There is a wide range of seats that will fit without much work.
